7 Days (Mikumi, Ruaha, and Udzungwa)

SAFARI OVERVIEW:

This is a 7-day safari itinerary, The safari will lead you to Mikumi National Park, then to Ruaha National Park, and stop at Udzungwa Mountains National Park for a nature hike on the way back. With this safari package, you will see different animal biodiversity, explore beautiful landscapes, scenic views of birds, big trees and shrimps, birds of prey, different snakes, reptiles, hike to beautiful waterfalls, and so much more.

Day:1 Dar-Mikumi National Park

Pick up from the Hotel/ Mwl Nyerere Airport, drive then around 08:00, Drive to Mikumi for Half day Game drive (5–6-hour drive), we will pick a lunch box on the way, but you will also have an option for a hot lunch en route.

Mikumi National Park was established in 1964. It is the fourth largest park in the country, covering an area of 3,230 sq. Kms. The Mkata river floodplain is an attractive point of the park where you can easily spot a large number of animals, including elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wild dogs, and impala, and spot a rich number of bird species. It is 283 km from Dar es Salaam city via the Morogoro route, which takes approximately a 4–5-hour drive, making Mikumi a popular option for weekend visitors from the city, or for business visitors with limited time for Safari.

Day:2 Mikumi National Park-Dar

Full day Game drive at Mikumi National Park and drive along the Mkata River.

After breakfast, go for a full-day game drive across Mikumi National Park with packed lunch boxes to see various animals in the park. You pass through the Mkata river, which is an attractive point of the park where you can easily spot a large number of animals, including elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, wild dogs, and impala, and spot a rich number of bird species.

Day 3: Ruaha National Park

Drive to Ruaha for an evening safari, overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.

After having a delicious breakfast, you will drive towards Ruaha National Park early in the morning. On the way, you may have already had the chance to see some giraffes, elephants, or antelopes that are wandering outside the park. After the formalities to be carried out at the gate, you will start your driving, crossing the Ruaha River to see its Hippos, crocodiles, elephants, hunting predators, various water birds, and so much more.

Day 4 Ruaha National Park

Another enjoyable safari day at Ruaha National Park, looking for animals along the Great Ruaha River and throughout the Park.

Ruaha National Park is the second-largest park in Tanzania, with 20,226 km²,2 which covers a vast population of Wildlife. The main attraction of this park is the great Ruaha River, with a length of 475km, attracting a large number of animals, especially during the dry season. The river provides life to the park, as it flows through the eastern side of the park and is home to hippos, crocodiles, and the bird count is over 400 species of birds such as Racket Tailed Roller, Pale billed Hornbill, Shelley’s Sunbird, and Hoopoes. Ruaha provides a home to one of Tanzania’s largest elephant populations, famous for pride of lions, giraffe, Grant’s gazelles, Leopard, Cheetah, Zebra, buffalo, etc, and rare or endangered animals such as Sable Antelope, Greater Kudu, & Roan Antelope.

Day 5: Ruaha National Park to Udzungwa Mountains

Morning Safari, then drive to Udzugwa, opt to pass through a Snake Park/Maasai Culture at Mikumi village.

On this day, you will have an early breakfast from the lodge, followed by a morning game drive on the way. An early morning is the best time for a game drive since it is easy to spot an abundant group of animals, especially predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, as they prefer to hunt in the cool of dawn and dusk.

Day: 6 Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Drive to Udzungwa for a nature hike to the famous Sanje waterfalls.

The park is famous for its high concentration of endemic species of animals and plants, such as Sanje mangabey, Iringa red colobus, and endemic Udzungwa Forest Partridge, Udzungwa Forest Francolin, and Rufous-wing sunbird. The park also offers several spectacular waterfalls, including the popular one, Sanje waterfalls, flowing over a huge rock buttress protruding from the forest canopy and down into a large pool base, making a perfect natural swimming pool. Udzungwa is the magnet for hikers which offering an excellent network of forest trails with an impeccable jungle experience. This is a nice sport for adventure and nature lovers as it gets you close to nature while giving a sense of exploration.

Day: 7 Udzungwa – Dar es Salaam

After breakfast then drive back to the Airport for the Flight back home/the hotel for drop off.

On this last day, you will drive back to Dar Es Salaam, followed by a drop off at the hotel/Airport, marking the end of our Safari.
